The Law Cell of the Personnel and Administrative Reforms Department is entrusted with the work of legal advice along with expeditious disposal of various Court cases concerning this department pending at the High Court at Calcutta, The West Bengal Administrative Tribunal and The Central Administrative Tribunal among many.
The functional background for the working of the Department is decided by the Chief Secretary with the assistance of the Principal Secretary led by the Honble MIC. The post of Law Officer in this Department is to be filled up from amongst the members of the West Bengal Legal Service (WBLS). The Law cell is entrusted with the work of :
- Vetting of notifications, orders etc of this department
- To maintain liaison with State Advocates in relation to various Court cases pending before the Courts of Law.
- The Law Officer is also entrusted to furnish legal opinion on matters relating to Vigilance and Law as entrusted by the Higher Authorities.
The Minister-in-Charge of the Department is the Supreme Authority of the Department. All policies and principles of the Departmental functions are implemented with his approval.
The Principal Secretary of the Department is the executive head of the Department.
Joint Secretary along with Deputy Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Law Officer, Registrar, Officer-on-Special Duty, Special Officer and Section Officer and other clerical staff deals with the daily business of the Law cell Under the administrative control of the Principal Secretary
